Language:EnglishAbstract:The strategic documents of Slovenian foreign policy identify the region of Western Balkans as the region of priority, where the Republic of Slovenia should maintain its presence based on comprehensive inter-ministerial approach, as the region presents its security backyard. The unstable and unsecure environment in the Western Balkans could significantly affect the Republic of Slovenia as well. The Slovenian Armed Forces as Slovenian foreign policy instrument is recognized to be a relevant actor in the region of Western Balkans with its presence from late nineties, when the first contingent was deployed to the humanitarian operation Alba in Albania. Currently, the Republic of Slovenia is present in the Western Balkans with more than seventy percent of its total forces deployed in operations and missions abroad. Conducting its tasks within operations and missions, the Slovenian Armed Forces is thus contributing to the international security, and consequently national security. Furthermore, it contributes to pursuance of national foreign policy objectives defined in strategic documents. Keywords:Slovenian armed forces, international operations and missions, Western Balkans, foreign policy priorities
