| Language: | English | Title: | Quantum technologies in defence and security | Abstract: | Quantum technologies are a rapidly developing field with a significant impact on defence and security. This paper addresses the core concepts of quantum mechanics and reviews the main quantum technologies: quantum computing, quantum sensing, and quantum communications. Particular emphasis is placed on dual use technologies and on the application of quantum sensors for inertial navigation in GNSS-denied environments, where atomic accelerometers, gyroscopes, gravimeters, magnetometers, and atomic clocks provide substantially improved accuracy, stability, and system resilience. The paper presents existing market ready solutions and key European initiatives (SiQUID, EuroQCI, DIANA).
