Abstract:	Islamska država Iraka in Levanta je junija 2014 sprožila večjo vojaško ofenzivo in v le nekaj dneh zavzela obsežno območje v severnem Iraku, vključujoč mesto Mosul. Pri tem je maloštevilna in lahko oborožena vojska islamskih borcev v beg poslala številnejše in bolje oborožene branilce. V prispevku smo skušali pojasniti izid spopada in izluščiti glavne dejavnike, ki so prispevali k uspehu napadalcev na eni oziroma kolapsu branilcev na drugi strani. Metodološko je prispevek zasnovan kot študija primera vojaške operacije.

In June 2014, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant launched a major military offensive, capturing large areas of northern Iraq, including the city of Mosul, in a matter of days. During the fighting, a small and lightly armed force of Islamist fighters forced the numerous, heavily armed defenders to flee. This paper seeks to explain the outcome of the combat operations and to identify the key factors that contributed to the success of the attackers on the one hand and the collapse of the defenders on the other. Methodologically, the paper is designed as a case study of a military operation.
