Abstract:Osnovni namen defenzivnega delovanja je onemogočiti sovražniku napad in uničiti njegove ofenzivne zmogljivosti, odvrniti grožnjo in zagotoviti možnosti za ofenzivno delovanje. Glede na prej omenjene cilje poznamo tri oblike obrambe: obramba območja, mobilna obramba in povratno delovanje. Za uspešno izvajanje navedenih oblik pa poveljnik uporablja naslednje tehnike: obramba sektorja, obramba bojnih položajev, obramba odporne točke, krožno zavarovanje in obrambazadnjega pobočja. Ključ do uspešno izvedene obrambe je učinkovita uporaba sredstev za oviranje, načrta ognjenega sistema, kontrolnih ukrepov tersposobnost poveljnika, da uskladi vse dejavnike. Obramba ni pasivna dejavnost, zajema širok spekter načrtovanja, priprav, postopkov ter neprestanega spremljanja situacije in prilagajanja novim okoliščinam.

Goals of defensive operations are also to prevent occupying an area, penetrating the defending area, to gain time, enable concentration of force in other areas, destroy the enemy and break his intent. The circumstances and situation claims which type of defensive operation will the commander conduct. Considering the previously mentioned goals, there are three types of defensive operations: area defense, mobile defensive and retrograde. To efficiently conduct these types of defensive operations, the commander uses defensive techniques, which are: defend an area, defend a battle position, defend a strongpoint, defend a perimeter and defend a reverse slope. The key to successfully conduct and defensive operation is the efficient use of disruptive actions, commander's fire plan, control measures and commander's ability to synchronize all necessary factors. Defensive operations are not passive activities; they combine a broad spectrum of planning, preparations, procedures and require a constant assessment of the situation and adjustments to new factors. Keywords:defensive operations, area defense, mobile defense, retrograde, withdrawal, delay, retirement, defend an area, defend a battle position, defend a strongpoint, defend a perimeter, defend a reverse slope
