Abstract:Zračno-jurišne operacije so nekakšne idejne naslednice desantov z jadralnimi letali iz časa 2. svetovne vojne.

Abstract:Air assault operations are in a sense spiritual descendants of glider landingsof the Second World War. Their development started with the Vietnam War, were they were an upgrade of transportation of troops with helicopters. Later tactical and technological progress lifted their importancefrom tactical to an almost strategic level. The number of undertaken air assault operations is rising high not only due to its current suitability for hunting down insurgents in the wast mountainous regions of Afghanistan, or members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia - FARC - in the jungle there, but also in its accordance with the modern doctrine of high-paced and determined (counter-)strikes, wherever on the unpredictable modern battlefiled. This paper is a presentation of how American Armed Forces' doctrine based air assaults are planned and carried out. Since this doctrine focuses on the brigade level actions, description of an infantry platoon's role in it is very limited. Also brief are closing thoughts on current and future capabilities of Slovenian Armed Forces for conducting this sort of operations.
