New, professional armies are smaller by numbers of personnelbut are better trained, more efficient and better equipped. At the same time they have to be highly mobile, flexible and logistically self-sufficient and sustainable. This is necessary especially for successful Out of area operations and other tasks in new security environment. New tasks demand from military personnel versatile knowledge and skills that can not be achieved only through Žsingle branchŽ units. That is one of the reasons why nations are forming combined, joint and modular task forces or battle groups with different military branches and specialist involved. Battle groups can bifully national or in case of national shortfalls in certain field they can be be- or multi- national. Slovenian Armed forces tested a modular approach with Light Battalion Battle Group (LBBG). In accordance with SAF mission, LBBGcould be used in defending own country as a main manoeuvre unit or as a part of Nato or EU multinational forces deployed on out of area operations. Operating in multinational surroundings is a specially demanding. It requires unifications and interoperability in tactic, techniques, procedures, planning,command and control and also compatibility in equipment, combat fire systems, arms and concept of operations. It also requires patience and mutual respect. All listed above was the task for SAF Light Battalion Battle Group during training for, firstly achieving combat readiness and afterwards also during the mission in Kosovo.
