Abstract:Danes smo lahko priča vse večji urbanizaciji. V zadnjih petdesetih letih se jei z različnih razlogov več milijonov ljudi preselilo v urbana središča. Po ocenah združenih narodov naj bi do leta 2025 več kot 70 % svetovne populacije živelo v mestih. Zaradi tega se v prihodnje bojevanju v urbanem okolju ne bomo mogli izogniti. Bojevanje v urbanem okolju je zelo specifično tako na operativni kot taktični ravni. Oteževalne dejavnike v urbanem okolju predstavlja prisotnost civilistov in kompleksnost samega urbanega okolja. Branilec lahko izkoristi prednost dobrega poznavanja terena in se lahko zato, z uporabo podzemnih tunelov in prikritih poti, neopazno premika iz ene strani mesta na drugo. Medtem pa stavbe in ulice, ki so blokirane z ruševinami onemogočajo napadalcu, da bi izkoristil svojo tehnološko in številčno premoč. Iz primerov iz prakse, kakršni so bitke za Vukovar, Grozni in Faludžo se lahko naučimo marsikaj in na se na podlagi pridobljenih spoznanj ustrezno pripravimo za delovanje v urbanem okolju, ki bo predstavljalo glavno bojišče 21. stoletja.

Abstract:The world is becoming increasingly urbanized. Over the past 50 years, a variety of factors have forced millions of people to migrate into large urban centers. According to United Nations estimates, by 2025 at least 70 % of the world's population will live in urban areas. Because of that urban areas are expected to be the future battlefield and combat in urban areas cannot be avoided. Fighting in urban enviroment is very specific at both the operational and tactical level. Complicating factors in urban warfare include the presence of civilians and the complexity of the urban terrain by itself. Defenders may use the advantage of detail knowledge of the area and move from one part of the city to another undetected using underground tunnels and concealed roots. Meanwhile, buildings and rubble-filled streets prevent attackers to take advantage of his technological and numerical superiority. Lessons learned in Vukovar, Grozny and Fallujah can provide us with information, necessary to prepare for fighting in urban terrain, which is going to be the main battlefield of the 21st century.
