Russian aggression on Ukraine
Damjan Štrucl, 2022

Abstract: The contemporary security environment is global, dynamic, and unpredictable, particularly in terms of providing cyber security and cyber defence. Numerous analyzes of Russian hybrid operations have shown that the Russian Federation is conducting a number of cyber operations to achieve its politically strategic goals. Despite such debates, the Russo-Ukrainian war represents a new turning point in the global security environment, as many non-state actors have become involved in the conflict and cyberspace has become a tool for implementing sanctions. Thus, the article aims to analyze the implementation of cyber operations of the Russian Federation as observed in the case of its military aggression against Ukraine and the potential global impact of cyberspace in armed conflict for the future.

Eight months of war in Ukraine
Berthold Sandtner, 2023

Abstract: There are three major dimensions which justify a closer examination when looking at the implications for the development of armed forces from lessons from the war in Ukraine: the strategic, conceptual/doctrinal, and capability development dimensions. Nuclear deterrence capabilities, as well as alliances, turned out to be paramount multipliers at the strategic level. Doctrinally, a comprehensive understanding of hybrid warfare should trigger a capability development, not only fuelled by likelihood but also by considering the most dangerous courses of action. Finally, capabilities should be generated, provided and trained for what they are planned to be employed for. A robust and capable command and control architecture is paramount in order to compensate conventional asymmetry and act decisively and successfully.

The effects of armed conflicts on the environment
József Padányi, László Földi, 2023

Abstract: With the ongoing Russian military operations against Ukraine, reviewing the impact of the military forces’ activities on the environment is crucial. The topic is relevant not only because the devastation is immeasurable, but also because all the data proves that wars have effects that accelerate climate change. In this paper we review some of the environmental issues arising from Russian aggression, and we also refer to the effects of previous military conflicts of this kind. We deal with the pollution caused by war and the relationship between war and water. We touch on the destruction of some aspects of infrastructure (cultural goods, energy, health, transport) and its consequences.
