(Ponovno) »pridobivanje mišic«: zmanjšanje odvisnosti Evrope od ameriške obrambne industrijske baze [Elektronski vir]=(Re)building muscle: reducing Europe’s dependence on the U.S. defense industrial base / Eric GomezEric Gomez, 2025 Opis: The article analyzes Europe's dependence on the US defense industry and strategies for reducing this dependence. The Russian invasion of Ukraine, the war in Israel, and the protection of international shipping have strained the US industry and exposed the vulnerabilities of European stocks. The article concludes that strengthening the European defense industry is strategically beneficial for NATO, as it increases Russia's deterrence capability and reduces political and military dependence on the US. [Elektronski virH] : An assessment of the first Von der Leyen commission’s defense initiatives=Hvalisanje ali realnost? : Ocena obrambnih pobud prve komisije Von der Leyen / Davide Fiammenghi, Andrea LocatelliDavide Fiammenghi, Andrea Locatelli, 2025 Opis: In its first mandate, the Von der Leyen Commission launched a number of initiatives aimed at strengthening military cooperation between EU Member States. Some were spurred by external events, like the war in Ukraine; others were part of longer-term projects. These initiatives resulted in an articulated web of efforts which spanned institutional reform, weapons procurement, and doctrinal change. The aim of this paper is to appraise the potential and the limitations of these efforts, and to design policy prescriptions aimed at improving defense integration in the EU. The paper first provides a systematic review of the aforementioned initiatives; it continues by contextualizing these initiatives within the broader debate on EU strategic autonomy, and discusses the limits of European ambitions (political, economic and military). It concludes by presenting policy recommendations. Ključne besede: European Commission, defense cooperation, strategic autonomy Objavljeno: 16.06.2026; Ogledov: 262; Prenosov: 1

65. U.S. pressure on Nato: betraying friends or building up a team? [Elektronski vir]=Ameriški pritisk na Nato: izdaja prijateljev ali vzpostavitev ekipe? / Andrew GoodhartAndrew T. Goodhart, 2025 Opis: The second Trump administration is widely seen as destructive of the liberal international order and, indeed, many of its actions are. On NATO, however, the United States may be poised to strengthen the alliance in unexpected ways. Two trends create an opportunity for NATO to be a stronger alliance of more equal powers. First, the United States needs to shift resources to East Asia, creating incentives to do less in Europe. Second, Russian revanchism is creating insecurity in European capitals without threatening core U.S. security interests. Combined, these two trends are creating political will to increase European defense spending and break NATO’s long-standing problem with buck-passing.
