Abstract:	Strateško varnostno okolje Republike Slovenije se vse hitreje spreminja. Nestabilnost, grožnje in tveganja, ki iz tega izhajajo predstavljajo glavni izziv globalne varnosti, s tem pa tudi varnosti Republike Slovenije. Pomen klasičnih vojaških groženj se sicer zmanjšuje, dolgoročno pa jih tudi ni mogoče povsem izključiti. Klasične vojaške oblike ogrožanja RS vse bolj nadomeščajo moderne oblike ogrožanja varnosti. Glavne značilnosti %modernih oblik% groženj so asimetričnost delovanja, kompleksnost, transnacionalni značaj, raznovrstnost in nedoločljivost struktur, vse večja stopnja organiziranosti nevarnih družbenih skupin ter njihova spretnost v uporabi sodobnih komunikacij. Odsek S-2 opravlja pomembne naloge, število teh pa se občutno poveča v procesu načrtovanja delovanj in operacijah kriznega odzivanja OKO. Zaključna naloga analizira geografske in demografske vidike samomorilskega terorizma ter motive za izvedbo tega dejanja.
