Language:EnglishAbstract:Shooting training is described by some as art. It cannot be achieved over night, with some random target burst of gunfire. Shooting training starts at the beginning of any soldiers career with receiving the weapon, learning how to handle it correctly. Even before the first bullet fired, soldiers must train other accompanying elements: breathing, aiming the target, taking a shot. An experienced trainer is essential for successful training of a beginner shooter, who has to be encouraged on the way. The knowledge has to betransmitted gradually, so the trainee can use is on the shooting course, under increasing pressure and longer distances. In Slovenian Army shooting training is organised in training centres and in units/on the field. Slovenianarmy follows an excellent UK sourced training programme, which is confirmed also by Slovenian soldiers trained abroad. But Slovenian Army faces several challenges: lack of ammunition, simulators, the number of shooting galleries and number of qualified trainers available. There is also the question whether such comprehensive programmes are necessary or should they bemodified and include some Close Quarter Tactical Shooting elements, which follow the shooting experiences from recent crisis locations. One of the biggest challenges is time management, implementing all necessary shooting exercises during the year, although there are not many. The resources are in great deal allocated to units which are involved in international missions, Slovenian based units only implement the number of shootings required to meet the minimum standards set. Keywords:shooting training, marksmanship qualification, live fire exercise, shooting principles
