Language: | English | Abstract: | Security situation and circumstances are changing fast therefore being prepared for all kinds of contemporary risks and security challenges, potentially influencing on the common feeling of safety, quality of life and relationships between individuals, countries and international community, is becoming even more important and essential. Considering this, I have researched current structure and readiness of national authorities for timely action in case of national security threats and hazards. In accordance with the above stated I have researched the national security system, its definition, structure and mechanism for proper operation and action in case of security risks and challenges. Moreover, the focus of research was the contemporariness of its structure and organisation with the centre focus on organisation, operation and cooperation of intelligence services and their adequacy and purpose in Slovenia. A contribution to this were the analysis and comparisons of national security systems of the Slovak Republic and Israel as well as facts, thoughts and ideas shared in the interviews by experts from this field. Knowing the intelligence activity, I connected it to early warning as a possibility of timely action when discovering potential crisis on different areas of social life. Intelligence activity and early warning lead me to the early-warning system and determining whether it is organised on the national level as it had been planned in the Resolution of national security strategy of the Republic of Slovenia and whether an integrated approach to security and providing the expected security of the citizens of Slovenia even exists in our country. Researches showed a possibility of establishing the effective early-warning system by reorganising intelligence services, better cooperation, better exchange of data and an integrated approach. Such system would be established on the strategic level and would support the highest authorities in making decisions regarding national interests, protecting strategic goals and securing them from potential crisis. | Keywords: | intelligence activity, intelligence, data, early warning, early-warning system, national security, threats, security risks, security challenges, peace, security |
