Abstract:	Slovenska vojska je iz vojske namenjene teritorialni obrambi, omejene na nacionalni teritorij, postala postmoderna vojska. Poleg nacionalne obrambe opravlja naloge v mednarodnih operacijah in na misijah v zahtevnih geografskihin klimatskih pogojih zunaj območja držav članic Nata in EU. Informacije o geografskem prostoru imajo pomembno vlogo pri začasnem izvajanjem nalog zunaj nacionalnega ozemlja, ter zagotavljajo osnovo drugim informacijam in podatkom o bojišču oziroma kriznem območju. Slovensko vojsko pri izvajanju nalog v zahtevnih geografskih in podnebnih pogojih, tujih kulturnih okoljih, v oddaljenih območjih delovanja ter v operacijah višje intenzivnosti geoprostorsko podpirajo obveščevalno varnostnimi organi SV, Obveščevalno varnostna služba MORS in pristojnimi organi v MORS. Primanjkljaj izkušenj in geoinformacijskih podatkov se nadomešča s pridobivanjem geoinformacij iz javnih virov, od znanstvenih, raziskovalnih in izobraževalnih institucij, partnerskih držav in organizacij Nato, EU in OZN.

Through time that has changed and SAF is now postmodern military with two main tasks - the first is to defend the homeland, and the second, equally important is, to participate in NATO or EU out of area, crises response operation. The military therefore must be able to operate in different geographic and climate environment. In such circumstances good and accurate geographic information are of at most importance and are, at the same time bases for gathering all other information about area of operation. Geospatial information about mission geospatial for Slovenian armed forces are provided by military intelligence and security structures on different levels as well as by intelligence and security service in MoD and other responsible services. Slovenia does not havea lot of experiences in geo-information data gathering, so beside information and intelligence gathered by NATO, EU, UN and other partner nations, also open sources are used for good geospatial, geo-political and geo-strategic analyses.
