Abstract:For Slovenian Republic year 1991 presented the end of a long lasting period ofliving in a mutual state (federation) of Yugoslavia. It was a rupture with the history of one state and consequently independent Slovenia came into existence. Within the process of independence the fortune of the Slovenes was still uncertain. Therefore, for its certainty it was necessary to resort to arms. Slovenes stood together and decided to defend their homes in the old-newhomeland. The battle for Holmec border crossing takes part in this story, which on 27th and 28th of June 1991 took place in Carinthia. The battlewhich lasted for a few hours unwinded in the valley of the place Dolga Brda, next to the state border with Republic of Austria where the Holmec border crossing facility stands. On one side there were slovenian Territorial defence and militia (police), trying to unburden the besieged border crossing and force the Jugoslavian National Army (JNA) soldiers to surrender. These were on the other side following federal orders to take control over border crossings. Vital significance of this conflict is the presence of civilians on the battlefield, the notice of natural terrain configuration and command and control, supported with real time information data.
