Abstract:Morje je neizčrpen vir soli, mineralov in kovin, vir hrane, najcenejši način komunikacije med narodi in ena najstarejših prometnih poti, zato človek že od davnin izkorišča njegove sadove.

Abstract:The sea is an inexhaustible source of minerals, metals, source of nutrition, an inexpensive way of transportation and one of the oldest passageways between the nations. The sea is route for international transport of goods and people. Maritime transport of bulk cargo, petroleum product, ore, cereals, timber and containerized freight, as the most economical way of transport is on constant growth. The growth of international trade influenced the development of merchant navies. The sea has an increasing role in tourism and recently very actively used to generate electricity. The world's reserves of crude oil in marine seabed are still very rich, so the exploitation of oil and liquefied petroleum gas has grown dramatically. However, the sea also hides its dark side. Wars, modern piracy, smuggling of people, weapons, oil, drugs and rare, protected animal species, are illicit crimes that are threatening the world economy and undermining maritime security. If the world economy is to continue benefitting from the "blue gold" and to guarantee sustainable peace and safety of its waterways, it has to protect it by all legal means necessary, with the use of military naval capabilities included.
