Abstract:Nove tehnologije nezadržno prodirajo v človekovo življenje in življenje družbe. Odkar je bilo leta 1981 uvedeno prvo brezžično omrežje, je število mobilnih naprav naraslo v milijarde. Brezžična omrežja 4. generacije (4G) ne morejo zadovoljiti naraščajočega povpraševanja in tehničnih zahtev, zato jih postopoma nadomešča nova, peta generacija mobilnih omrežij (5G). Omrežja 5G bodo omogočila nove storitve in postala živčni sistem prihodnje povezane družbe.

Abstract:New technologies are unstoppably penetrating into human life and into the life of society. Since the first wireless network was introduced in 1981, the number of mobile devices has grown into the billions. Wireless networks of the 4th generation (4G) cannot satisfy the growing demand and technical requirements, so it is gradually being replaced by the new, fifth generation of mobile networks (5G). 5G networks will enable new services and become the nervous system of the future connected society. The development and management of new networks is not only influenced by technology, but by many factors. Those most important for the defense system are: strategies, frequency spectrum, standardization, security and geopolitics. Like technical solutions, new generation capabilities, system components, network architecture, factors are also presented and analyzed in detail. Since the goal of this thesis is to determine whether the technology of the 5th generation of mobile networks can be used for military purposes, special emphasis is given to areas of possible use and scenarios. Architectural models, possible command and control scenarios, areas of application for maintaining forces and their combat power, and challenges are presented. An overview of testing and projects is included. 5G has great potential for use in military purposes, but it also has its shortcomings, which, especially in combat operations, must be taken into account.
Keywords:Slovenian Armed Forces, wireless communication systems, fifth generation mobile networks, military use, technical solutions, security
